GOYA Informational Meeting: Feb. 23
We are very blessed to have a parish that is full of youth who are eager to learn and deepen their connection with the Church and the Orthodox faith.
Four years ago, most of our youth were younger, elementary-school aged children. Today, we have more and more of our youth becoming teenagers in Middle School or High School. At this age, it is crucial for our youth to remain fully engaged in our faith and to maintain friendships and connections that will remain with them as they enter young adulthood. Church School by itself can only go so far in reaching this goal.
Greek Orthodox Youth of America (GOYA) is the official youth ministry program of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America for Middle and High School aged youth. GOYA offers many ways for our youth to continue to connect with the Church both at the local and Metropolis levels. It includes local events that strengthen our faith and our relationships with one another, as well as Metropolis-wide events like camping opportunities, retreats, and the annual basketball tournament.
Until now, we have not had a GOYA chapter at St. Nicholas. The time has come to change that. On Friday, February 23, at 6pm, we will have an informational meeting to discuss our goals moving forward with starting a GOYA chapter, and how you and your family can be involved. If you have kids in Middle School or High School, please consider attending along with your family.
